Quadrivio reels in €100m for Fund 3 first close

Italian buyout house Quadrivio Capital has completed a first closing of its third mid-market private equity fund at €100m.

Quadrivio Private Equity Fund 3 has had strong support from existing and new institutional investors, with commitments coming from pension funds, funds of funds, banks, insurance companies and private investors.

If the fund reaches its €250m target it will significantly larger than its predecessor, Quadrivio Fund 2, which launched in 2010 with a size of €150m.

The firm said that in only five years, Quadrivio Fund 2 has distributed 87 per cent of the drawn down capital to investors.

Fund 3 will pursue a similar investment strategy to that of its previous fund, by focusing on buyout investments in leading Italian SMEs with an enterprise value of €30m to €100m.

The fund will target a portfolio of around 10 companies, with the investments being mainly majority or controlling positions with an equity ticket size of €10m to €30m.

Quadrivio CEO Walter Ricciotti said, “We are proud of the renewed trust that investors place in our investment strategy and in our ability to seize exciting opportunities within the Italian midmarket. Italy is characterised by a rich network of SMEs in the manufacturing sector, greater in number than even Germany.”

“Furthermore, the generational change of many Italian SMEs and the stricter debt to equity ratio requirements by the banks, leads to a high volume of deal flow of niche market leaders with global potential, which seek support in their internationalisation process and in strengthening and consolidating their competitive positioning in the market. The Italian market also presents attractive pricing relative to other European countries.”
